Owned by Melbourne identity  Morrie Schwartz with an editorial board under the chairmanship of distinguished academic Robert Manne, the magazine recently made news itself over a stoush between its former editor Sally Warhaft and the editorial board. Ms Warhaft had plans on the table to publish an article by former Treasurer Peter Costello which were not in line with editorial policy set by the board.

Naparstek, 23, who is reported to have applied for the position when he was 18, is regarded as a rare prodigy. He was educated at Melbourne High School and has written for The Age, the Jerusalem Post, The Cleveland Jewish News, The Australian, the Sydney Morning Herald and various major newspapers around the globe.

Although he will be Manne’s man and comply with Board policy, Naparstek will bring to the magazine an extraordinary mind which in time should serve to enhance The Monthly. Publisher Schwartz has told media that he is “the perfect editor.”
