1,500 to attend ‘We Will Dance Again’: a Nova tribute
Tomorrow night, Zionism Victoria will memorialise those who lost their lives at a dance event in Israel with a dance event in Melbourne.
Tuesday, 5th March will mark 150 Days since the horrors of 7th October. Among the 1,200 people massacred on that fateful day were more than 350 revellers at the Supernova music festival in Re’im. Dozens more were injured and at least 40 were kidnapped.
Five months on, a popular slogan in Israel is “We Will Dance Again”, with music events held in honour of those killed and seized at Re’im, reflecting their zest for life and embodying the resilience of the Israeli people in the face of tragedy.
In that same spirit, Zionism Victoria is hosting a ‘We Will Dance Again’ event on the evening of Tuesday, 5th March, in honour of those who lost their lives, as well as their family and friends in our community. That includes a number of the DJs who will be performing sets on Tuesday evening.
To be held at Caulfield Racecourse Reserve from 6pm to 11pm, 1,500 people have registered to attend.
The event will also feature an installation, The Daily Postcard, by Israeli illustrator and comic artist Zev Engelmeier, aka Shoshke. Since that horrific day, Shoshke, has been posting a daily postcard he draws of hostages and their families, mourners, injured and fallen soldiers, or evacuees. This unique installation seeks to find light and positivity in these dark times, to inspire hope and to keep the memory of the hostages alive.
Zionism Victoria executive director Zeddy Lawrence says, “Following 7th October, the phrase ‘We Will Dance Again’ evokes that same spirit of resilience, resolve and refusal to capitulate as those Holocaust survivors who sang Hatikvah immediately after liberation and who danced in Melbourne every year at the Buchenwald Ball.
“As well as honouring those who fell, it’s also an opportunity for us as Australian Jews to stand up and say we won’t be cowed by the haters, we won’t be intimidated by the antisemites and we won’t be deterred or defeated by the doxers.”
On a Tuesday evening in a quiet suburb with children who are trying to sleep. Selfish!!
No doubt it will be bombarded by Pro-Palestinian protesters. It’s a lovely idea and I do hope it goes well without that kind of ugly hitch.
