The National Council of Jewish Women NSW has commemorated the International Day of the Girl with a large-scale creative charity event.

Over 70 participants from all generations and a number of communities combined efforts in a working bee, crafting sanitary hygiene kits for the Days for Girls organisation which distributes them to young women in impoverished areas across the globe.

Representatives from humanitarian NGO Plan International also attended, explaining their work in over 75 countries to advance children’s rights, including equality for girls. The energy in the room was pulsing as volunteers from Year K to age 90 cut, traced and sewed through the afternoon.

“It was a joy to see young and old come together in such a harmonious, collaborative way to build bonds locally and improve the lives of girls and their communities with these amazing sanitary packs,” said NCJWA NSW Days For Girls Coordinator Ruth Shteinman, “It brought together so many different women and girls, connecting and educating them. Having Plan International there with us added depth and purpose to an already great day.”
