Facebook and SZCNSW

I have attended every Yom Hazikoron commemoration since JNF’s Aviva Kogus and Noga and Rami Ganor organised the first one in the King David Room of the now-vanished Hall Street Hakoah Club in the early 1990’s

At the first event fewer than 30 people, mostly Israeli expats, attended. Last year’s attracted many hundreds to Moriah College’s Triguboff Auditorium.

Obviously, tonight’s needed to be electronic because of the current Covid-19 restrictions. Unfortunately, the medium chosen for the service was Facebook. I was unable to watch past a few minutes into the programme, because of the idiotic procession of coloured balloons wafting up the screen and the equally constant and distracting comments scrolling up a panel on the side.

Surely the SZC could have chosen a less frivolous platform for such an important and significant commemoration. I chose to commemorate our heroes in the same way Australia did on Anzac Day, just two days ago, by standing in our front garden in silence with a candle.
