Sydney’s Our Big Kitchen is flat out each day providing meals to the needy with increased requests during the lockdown.

OBK’s CEO Rabbi Dr Dovid Slavin told J-Wire that the food for the commercial kitchen comes from a food bank, SecondBite, individuals, local stores and companies who drop off every day.

Recently, Channel 7 sent a TV crew to watch the kitchen in action.

Each day between 6 and 30 volunteers give their time to OBK with their duties staggered to satisfy COVID regulations.

Rabbi Slavin said: “Meals are prepared for a range of charities, and we are receiving requests from a range of charities every. Our aim is to help with uncertainty, to provide what we can, to help and support people from all walks of life. OBK is open to everybody, when something hits one of us it hits all of us.”

OBK always welcomes new volunteers. Rabbis Slavin added: “The more meals we send out the better, so the more volunteers we have the better.”
