The popular Jewish-themed impro comedy show based on the Australian and world-wide hit show, returns to Sydney’s Bondi Pavilion theatre on Sunday 19 February after a 4 year ‘shluff’.

Producer and originator Geoff Sirmai (who is also an original performer and director of the mainstream version of the show) says it’s a genuine case of ‘back by popular demand’!

“Audiences and performers have been hucking me continuously… but when even Bondi Council called recently and said “Nu?” – or words to that effect – I knew it was time.”

Actor, comedian and creator of the original AUJS Revue in 1984, Sirmai first produced Kosher Theatresports for the Jewish Arts Festival of 1995. It has been a vehicle for communal comics, student revue alumni and celebrity guests ever since, featuring stars like Libbi Gorr, Bianca Dye, Gabby Milgate, Joanna Weinberg, Tony Sloman and Liz Hovey.
Celebrity judges to ‘dai-dai-dai for’ have included Don Lane, Osher Gunsberg,Lior, Monica Trapaga, Larry Emdur, Playschool’s Benita Collings, Tara Moss, Wil Anderson and Umbilical Brother David Collins among dozens more.

Past winners are a ‘whose Jew?’ of the comedy scene with the likes of the legendary Shmux in Tux, Shiksa Envy, Rabbi-proof Fence, Six Nachas, Yentl as Anything, Nightmare on Chelm Street and the Maccabi Divas all strutting their stuff, in a magical mix of wits and shvitz.

Celebrity judges will be announced soon. A number of past stars are expected to return to the scene of former glories along with current Jewish ‘pros’ from the Theatresports mainstage.

Sirmai said he’s also keen to hear from new players especially young performers who have experience of Theatresports from the many burgeoning school and university competitions.
Kosher Theatresports is accepting expressions of interest from teams or individuals looking to be ‘match-made’ with other teammates and skills workshops are set for Sunday 5 and Sunday 12 February. Interested individuals should email Geoff Sirmai at [email protected]

Meanwhile tickets are already on sale for what is again expected to be a sell-out show.
