Friends and neighbours…writes Michael Kuttner

New friendships consolidated, other “friends” lecturing us and our neighbours up to their usual tricks – all part of this week’s nonstop action.

Michael Kuttner

The visit of the Indian Prime Minister with a very large delegation has been the highlight of a hectic week. Relations between India and Israel have taken a quantum leap forward. It is evident that the Indian PM has a warm feeling towards Israel and the Jewish People and moreover he is not intimidated by the politically correct brigade. A visit to Yad Vashem was not balanced by a pilgrimage to the tomb of “Saint” Arafat in Ramallah and that speaks volumes about his realistic policies.

The progress that Israel has made in recent times in consolidating old and new friendships in Africa and Asia obviously has rung alarm bells amongst the unelected officials of the PA. They are consequently busy trying to sow lies and mayhem in those countries in order to prevent any sort of co-operation with Israel. This illustrates exactly their real agenda.

It certainly looks as though the Australian Labour Party is heading down the same dead end path as their United Kingdom counterparts. What has been a bipartisan approach to Israel seems to be unraveling at astonishing speed. The political party of Dr. Evatt and other champions of Jewish statehood is rapidly degenerating into a mirror image of similar political groups in Europe and Scandinavia as well as the left wing of the US Democratic Party. Throwing overboard any semblance of knowledgeable even handedness the ideological hate infused members of the hard left are gradually taking over and imposing their warped agenda. Ignoring blatant support of terror and repeated Arab refusals to recognise the validity of legitimate Jewish sovereignty, these alleged champions of the oppressed wish to recognise an Arab terror State called Palestine. The fact that no such entity ever existed and that Jerusalem was never in its long history the capital of such a fictitious country is irrelevant to them.

Thus before too long and despite valiant efforts to thwart such an outcome by Jewish and non-Jewish party members by the time the next elections occur (sooner rather than later) official Labour Party policy will likely include recognition of “Palestine.” It most probably will not be too long before the New Zealand Labour Party follows suit. We can then wave old friends goodbye.

The controversies whipped up by the Kotel and conversion decisions of the Israeli Government have also strained friendships and highlight the tensions between Israelis and the Diaspora. There is no doubt that an equitable solution must be found to both problems and that the blackmail tactics of the Haredi parties must be confronted.

Progressive groups long ago ditched any yearning for the restoration of the Temple or even its relevance therefore I am somewhat mystified by their insistence on mixed prayers at the Kotel of all places. In addition a majority have been ardent champions of dividing Jerusalem which would mean a return to a Jewish ethnically cleansed part of the Capital. A recent Jerusalem Post op-ed by a well known modern Orthodox Rabbi recounted how a friend of his attended a Reform wedding in the USA. To his amazement the recitation by the Chatan of Psalm 137 prior to breaking the glass (symbolising the destruction of the Temple) was omitted. After the wedding ceremony he asked the Reform Rabbi if that had been an oversight. The Rabbi replied “Jerusalem is a very sensitive issue today and we didn’t want to prejudice the debate by taking sides!!”

If this indeed is the current politically correct thinking of our American Jewish friends one wonders what all the fuss is about as far as prayers at the Kotel are concerned.

Our “peace” loving neighbours meanwhile are acting true to form.

Jordan, the de facto Arab Palestinian State, which from 1948 to 1967 illegally occupied half of Jerusalem, ethnically cleansed Jews from its territory and forbade Jews worshipping at their holy sites, has decided once again to lead the charge against Israel’s legitimate sovereignty of its Capital. What better forum to propagate more lies and incitement than at UNESCO where the willing morally deficient majority are only too eager to pass any sort of resolution as long as it is against the Jewish State.

The latest resolution once again determined that Israel is an occupying power in the City of King David and that it has no right to be there. Demonstrating their abysmal ignorance of history and inherent prejudices once again UNESCO is also poised to pass another resolution declaring that the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron is endangered and that it is in fact part of Arab “Palestine.” In other words the second most holy site for Jews, after the Temple Mount, has no relevance or legal connection to the very people whom the Bible records as having purchased it long before Islam was ever thought of. Arab occupied Hebron now has a mayor who is proud of his past murder of Jews. This is the sort of “Alice in Wonderland” fantasy that passes for UN involvement in our affairs. Needless to say Fatah, Hamas and Abbas have all issued joyous declarations of support for UNESCO’s latest circus trick.

Adding insult to injury was the equivalence given to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust and Palestinian Arab terrorists. Watch this video (by courtesy of UN Watch) and see for yourselves moral degeneracy in action:

The worst aspect of this farce is encapsulated in a statement made by an Israeli official.

“Unfortunately when it comes to Israel and anti Israel resolutions which verge on anti Semitism the Islamic bloc votes automatically, while other nations, including “enlightened” European countries have no shame in abstaining even though they understand that by abstaining they provide de facto support for an outrageous resolution.”

In plain and simple language, those countries which call themselves “friends” and acquiesce accordingly in these forums, are in fact two faced cowards.

With friends like that who needs enemies?

I wonder if Mr. Kuttner really wants to suggest that the Indian PMs visit made the smallest unit of “leap” forwads in his visit? What is the measurable unit of a quantum leap? A nanoleap?
    Regards.

A great summing up of this week’s moronic injustices
It’s lamentable that our neighbors keep up their cheating
Antics – supported of course by the puppet UNESCO
And other inglorious, “blinded” UN agencies.
All out war may seem the only solution to dealing with
These backward communities with their rogue appetites for
    Attention and power
Israel must do its own dirty work and sooner rather than
    Later

And not a single word about the boiling debate in Israel about “religious indoctrination” at state schools?
    This definitely worth an article.
