Come march with us
Jewish Gay and Lesbian organisation Dayenu is extending an invitation to members of the Jewish community who support GLBT rights to march with them in the Mardi Gras parade at the beginning of next month.Dayenu has big plans for Mardi Gras including a stall at Mardi Gras Fair Day this coming Sundat in Victoria Park, Broadway and their annual Mardi Gras Shabbat Service and Dinner to be held the night before the Parade (Friday 2nd March) at Emanuel Synagogue in the Sydney suburb of Woollahra.
A fantastic float planned for the Parade itself on the evening of Saturday 3rd March.
Dayenu’s Roy Freeman told J-Wire: “As the Mardi Gras Parade and Purim fall within the same week this year, we’re planning a Purim-themed float. In the spirit of Purim, we’ve asked our marchers to dress up as Kings and Queens and are encouraging them to cross-dress (guys as queens, girls as kings). The more outrageous, the better!! Our float will look amazing with our huge 3D Magen David followed by all our marchers dressed up in gorgeous costumes!”
To help cover costs, we’re charging our marchers $25 for Dayenu members and $30 for non-members. We already have over 50 people registered to march and we’re expecting to more than double this number as we get closer to the date. If anyone wants to join us and show their support, please email us at [email protected] to register and we’ll add you to our list.
A French Jewish film will be screened as part of the Mardi Gras Film Festival. Called “Let my people go”, it’s a madcap comedy and it’s showing at the Cinema Paris in the Entertainment Quarter on 21st February at 9pm.
Anyone who would like to support Dayenu should email [email protected]
Last time I watched the festival of free expression along the main boulevards of Sydney, I observed that, except for the supportive police force, out in force, almost all participants were displaying de rigeour their choice of underwear, not that there is something wrong with it ( seee Seinfeld episode !).
Now ,if I were to take part in the same this year, as per open invitation, I wish to know what should I ask me missus to iron out for me. I have some Bonds, some Target, some Romanian long johns of WWI vintage slightly shrinked and, therefore more revealing. Under these circumstance would Michael Barnett still wish he’d be there and ,if so , then WHY !!!
C’mon Henry this one is publishable. It’s in good taste. Oh, apropos, I forgot to mention my edible ones !
BIG otto
It’s going to be amazing!
I wish I was there…
