A memorable event to mark Israel’s 70th at the 2018 UIA Women’s Division Brunch
Before a record crowd of 615 people at the 2018 UIA Women’s Division Brunch in Melbourne, Hayley Southwick who has been at the helm of the Women’s Division of Victoria for the past 10 years officially to embark on her role as the UIA Victoria President.
A united board of young, passionate, visionary women comprised of Serena Rotenberg, Ashleigh Pyke, Amanda Jolson, Elissa Sharp and Natasha Mymin. will lead the Women’s Division to even greater heights.
In a surprise tribute video for Hayley, message of support and well wishes flowed in from UIA leadership. Federal Women’s’ Division President Debbie Schaffer together with KH-UIA Head of International Women’s Division Marcello Goldin and UIA Executive Director and Shalich Idan Goldberger presented Hayley with a certificate of acknowledgment and a pin to mark the completion of her presidency.
Ambassador Belaynesh Zevadia – a living UIA success story shared her immense gratitude with the audience of their support to UIA in enabling her to make Aliyah from the Gondar region in the 1980’s fulfilling the dreams of her ancestors, to supporting her absorption into Israeli society including a scholarship for her studies. The peak of her success was truly marked by her returning to Ethiopia as their ambassador.
For the past decade the Women’s Division of the Victoria have supported the Youth Futures project. This year, the location of their support has changed and going forward, funds raised will be directed towards the Youth Futures centre in Sderot, an area in desperate need of our support. Following an emotional video highlighting the need for our support, CEO of the Youth Futures project Shay Lazar appealed to the audience to dig deep in support of the many youth at risk in Sderot who are suffering from post traumatic stress disorder derived from the area in which they reside.
The morning reached its pinnacle when Mosab Hassan Yousef – the son of Hamas Founder Sheikh Yousef took to the stage in an engaging and eye-opening “in conversation” lead by Senior Defence Correspondent for Israel’s Channel 10 Alon Ben-David. The audience at the International of Brighton.was captivated with Mosab’s story and welcomed him with a standing ovation.
